US Navy Aircraft Carriers May Soon Be Fighting Alongside Unmanned Ships and Pilotless Aircraft [external]

US Navy aircraft carriers may be deploying alongside unmanned vessels by 2027 or 2028 — or "earlier, if I can" make it happen, Adm. Michael Gilday, the service's top officer, said in February. Those drone warships "may not necessarily be completely unmanned," but that timeline would allow the Navy to "crawl-walk-run" and have those unmanned systems available "in large numbers" by the 2030s, Gilday said, pointing to the recently activated unmanned task force as a key part of that effort.

Michael Brown, Defense Innovation Unit Director, Earns 1st Wash100 Recognition [external]

Executive Mosaic has featured Michael Brown, director of the Defense Innovation Unit, in the 2022 Wash100 class for his leadership in agency efforts to bring advanced commercial technology to the U.S. military. This marks the first time Brown has been selected to Executive Mosaic’s annual list of leaders who shape the government contracting landscape. He has led the Department of Defense’s innovation arm since September 2018. Under his leadership, DIU delivered eight technology platforms from industry partners to DOD end-users during fiscal year 2021.
